I’m Lynne Harvey Zawada, the artist behind LHZ Artworks

I am an artist, illustrator, and writer who specializes in making stationery. I also sell prints of my artwork and other products like notebooks and gift wrap.

Locally, I exhibit my art and sell my products at craft shows and in gift shops and galleries.

I am a self-taught artist and my art is influenced by Japanese art, haiku poetry, and vintage floral illustrations. Most of my source of inspiration comes from the outdoors, particularly my own garden and the nature around me.

I have always loved drawing and coloring plants, flowers, and landscapes. As a child, I would cover my notebooks with doodles of flowers and vines and I tried every art supply I could get my hands on, from crayons to pastels.

Now, my favorite media is colored pencils. I like the look that the medium brings – the simplicity and
roughness with an emphasis on line and vivid color as the defining field of composition.

Trees and especially flowers, carry a sense of mindfulness to the beholder, whether it is a poetic symbol, a cultural artifact, or a memory. Collectively, they present a sense of timeless beauty within a landscape. I write haiku poetry to express this vision and these poems accompany many of my illustrations used in my bookmarks, note pads, and note cards.

My art complements the functional use of these products. Stationery is used to stay in touch, connect, organize, remind, and above all, communicate our thoughts and feelings with others.

As I create, my illustrations continues to evolve after I draw and color. I use my computer to help create repeating patterns from my original drawings. Many patterns become part of my gift and tissue wrap designs; they create a broader meaning as the patterns emerge from the replication of the image in the design. And these patterns become part of the intended gift to others.

In the past few years, I’ve rekindled my childhood passion for coloring with my Coloring Books and
Postcards. I find that coloring brings a sense of joy, peace, and relaxation for all ages. It also helps people re-examine their perspective through color. And, when used with stationery, it enables people to share their thoughts and art with others.

As my art evolves, so does my vision for Lynne Zawada and LHZ Artworks. That’s why I continue to explore and design nature-inspired stationery: to create joy, find beauty, and peace in nature. I hope those designs inspire you to create, share your own thoughts and designs, and connect the beauty within you and world with others.
